UWI's mFisheries Team is deeply indebted to the following:
International Developmenrt Research Centre, IDRC, for supporting the Caribbean ICT Research Programme, 2009/ 2011, of which mFisheries is a component;
Trinidad and Tobago Network Information Centre, TTNIC, which sponsors the hosting of the mFisheries site and has sponsored a Research Assistant post used to, among other things, acquire, process and post still and video coverage of the livelihoods of small scale fisher folk in Trinidad and Tobago. This media documentary has been critical to gaining insight into the (i) challenges faced by small scale fisher folk in Trinidad and Tobago and into (ii) the opportunities for productive mobile interventions;
Caribbean Fisheries Training and Development Institute, CFTDI, which has provided invaluable support for the quantitative and qualitative field work exercises; and which continues to collaborate with the mFisheries team to contemplate meaningful mobile interventions into the livelihoods of small scale Caribbean fisher folk;
Distance Learning Secretariat, DLS, of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education, which approached the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering for assistance with mobile-based training for local fisher folk and, through this, established the seed for the mFisheries project. DLS continues to collaborate with the mFisheries team to contemplate meaningful mobile interventions into the livelihoods of small scale Caribbean fisher folk;
MIT NextLab which has guided the design and development methodology used to contemplate and implement mFisheries applications on smart phones and with which the mFisheries team plans to conduct field deployments in Trinidad and Tobago in 2011.
