Research Assistant/Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT:

2 years

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualification: B.Sc. in Computer Science or Electrical and Computer Engineering, with successful completion of software engineering course/s.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Development of at least one software application from concept to deployment using formal software engineering methodology
2. Implementation of software application/s that reside on the mobile phone as well as server-based applications that communicate with mobile phones

SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will work in a team engaged in assessing the communications needs of small scale fisher folk and / or farmers, building mobile application solutions to meet these needs and assessing their impact. The candidate will be required to:

1. Report to a joint supervisory team comprising an academic member of staff of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and an academic member of staff from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
2. Develop requirements specifications, design, implement, test, deliver and maintain mobile applications and assess their fitness for purpose
3. Identify and document related software engineering best practices
4. Deliver reports at milestone dates on the progress of mobile application development and deployment
5. Jointly prepare journal and / or conference submissions in order to disseminate the results of the research
6. Discharge other related responsibilities as specified by the Supervisory Team

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

The Department places high priority on individuals who can work well in a team environment. A fluent command of English is absolutely essential. In addition, the candidate must show keen interest in innovations for improving the livelihoods of the poor.

SALARY:

Standard University rates apply. These range from $6,000.00 / month to $8,000.00 / month, depending on the applicant's qualifications.
