The main objectives of this component are twofold.

§         To conduct a comprehensive ICT Survey in the Caribbean region to cover baseline information needs for studies and analyses from different partners involved in the construction of the Caribbean Information Society.

§         To analyse the household-level data, including the status of broadband and mobile usage in selected Caribbean countries in order to promote evidence-based policy planning and  implementation with respect to ICT development and its impact on social and economic development in the region

The findings based on the proposed modules on broadband and mobile would enable Caribbean stakeholders to better advance the debate on the universal access.  Trends on usage and attitudes could also inform issues such as the required infrastructure development, levels of investment required as well as regulatory and policy frameworks needed for enabling evidence-based decision making at all levels.

The specific objectives are:

·         To collect a set of high quality, internationally comparable ICT data.

·         To utilize up-to-date data on core ICT indicators and additional modules discussed in a joint Caribbean ICT Survey.

·         To provide in depth analysis on Internet usage and attitudes to broadband and mobile services which can inform evidence based policy and regulation, as a contribution towards development strategies in the Caribbean.

·         To provide information that may be used to advise corporate strategic planning for business and investors doing or seeking to do business within the Caribbean region.

·         To promote a deeper public understanding of fixed and mobile broadband and mobile services and how it can be used to influence trade, education and other aspects of the lives of people in the Caribbean, especially the poor and otherwise marginalized.
